Microsoft Power Platform implementation and operational support

JP TOKYO SUPPORTED THE IMPLEMENTATION AND OPERATION OF MICROSOFT POWER PLATFORM* AT ONE OF THE LARGEST GENERAL ELECTRONICS MANUFACTURER COMPANIES IN JAPAN.

Project Background

The client company is a group of several hundred companies, which includes users from group companies with a wide variety of requirements within the Microsoft tenant. When the Power Platform was first deployed, each company's applications/flows, etc. operated in a single Power Platform default environment. However, due to differences in the characteristics of the solutions required by each company and the amount of storage resources, it was desired to centralize the operation of the entire tenant, while guiding the Power Platform environment as a container for independent company-wide operation.

Process

JP Tokyo assisted in the following aspects:

  1. Research licenses required for each Power Platform solution (examining the license guide)

  2. Research functions and its implementation & operation methods for each Power Platform solution (examining product documentation)

  3. Develop procedures for creating a Power Platform environment

  4. Develop a method to manage the add-on resources allocated to each environment

  5. Identify implementation & operational issues in each environment, submit questions to Microsoft on behalf of the client company and review the answers

Results

The company has created multiple Power Platform environments within Microsoft tenants that contain the solutions required for each company and are operating in a stable manner. In addition, the company can now monitor its licenses and resource usage situation each month to verify the resources are in good health.

Insights and Recommendations

The Power Platform admin center, offered as a standard feature by Microsoft, lacks information in certain aspects of resource management. We also applied the inventory function (collecting detailed information on Power Platform environments, Apps, Flows, Bots, etc.) of Microsoft's community tool (called Power Platform CoE Starter Kit), which can complement the Power Platform admin center. JPTC has verified that the inventory function can provide more granular resource monitoring. We expect that the tool's functionality will be absorbed into the Power Platform admin center in the future, but at this time we recommend using the tool in conjunction with the Power Platform admin center.

JP Tokyo’s Differentiators

JP Tokyo was able to contribute to the above research, implementation, and operation support in the following aspects:

  1. Reviewing Microsoft documentation to identify requirements and issues

  2. Identifying appropriate issues based on extensive experiential knowledge of IT platforms and container technologies

  3. Posting appropriate questions and reviewing the answers through skilled technical escalation techniques to IT vendors

*: Microsoft Power Platform is an extensible platform with access to low-code tools (PowerApps, Power Automate, Power Virtual Agents, etc.) that make it easy to create efficient and flexible solutions.
